Meet Shruti Founder of O’ Happy Sunshine-  Nursingwear Brand

There are plenty of mothers who have made a vast mark in the business world. I got a chance to interact with one such Inspiring Mompreneur. She is the founder of a nursing wear brand, which sells a variety of nursing wears and makes life easy for nursing moms.

Here’s what she had to say :

Can you tell me a little bit about yourself and your family?

My name is Shruti and I am married to my college sweetheart.

I love being a mom to my beautiful 4 yr old daughter and a 7-month-old son.

What’s your Parenting Mantra?

Hold, hug and cuddle your babies more. They grow up so fast.

Which came first, the babies or the business?

My entrepreneurial journey began after I became a mom myself and struggled with a problem every new mother faces – breastfeeding in public.

What made you decide to be a mom entrepreneur?

After my daughter Sahana was born, I faced a lot of challenges to nursing her in public. I was in Delhi at that time and it is so crowded wherever you go to make a new mom feel intimidated. When I started looking for nursing solutions available in the market, all I could find is nighties. It was like being given two choices – stay indoors and take care of my child or start formula feed for her. And knowing the advantages of breastfeeding, I was pretty sure I was not giving up just because of this. So I designed clothes for myself and it took away my major worry when stepping out with my baby.

What are the things that help you stay systematized throughout the day and get time for everyone and everything?
Tell us your time management secrets!

I think it is impossible to do everything for everyone. When you say Yes to something or someone you are always saying a No to something else. Make your choices wisely!

Childcare is a big factor—what’s been working for you?

Kids need most care and attention for their initial few years and no one better than a mom can do that.

I never say No to any help I can get for the household chores but I am all up for raising my kids myself.

When you do get down time, what do you do to relax, refresh or get inspired?

A warm cup of coffee is enough to relax me and get going these days.

When I have a little more time at hand I like sketching and painting. That is something that helps me get into the flow.

Does being a Mom help you be more expert at what you do? Has your career changed in any way?

I think having a baby has made me sharper, more effective and more interested in the world around me. I know how to get my work done with a lot more focus in much less time. As far as a career change goes, I didn’t have to think much to leave my full-time job as a software engineer and start on with my own venture which lets me be my own boss.

Please provide one business tip that you feel can really help a mom entrepreneur with her business

Have the courage to start working on your dream no matter how small it may be. Don’t wait for kids to grow, don’t wait for all lights to turn green because that will never happen. The best time to do anything is now. The risks and chances you take become the stories you tell and those you don’t become regrets of a lifetime.

Give me a one-word answer that arises to mind for each of the following:

·       Family – Love

·       Love – Hugs

·       Parenting – Responsibility

·       Motherhood  – Superpower

·       Work – Balance

·       Happiness – Contentment

·       Impossible – Nothing

·       Inspiration – Is everywhere

  1. It’s nice to read about how a woman entrepreneur hit her ideas and her thoughts about parenting and childcare.

  2. I like reading such inspiring articles about women entrepreneurs. She has taken a great initiative which was much needed

  3. Love how she came up with this idea. I can imagine how difficult it can be when it comes to nursing in public. I bought so many nursing appropriate clothes when I delivered my son. Access to these things have been easier here in the UK but I’m glad that Shruti brought such things for Indian market. I wish her best for her business.
